Scripture Union Eastern Cape: Impacting Lives Through Leadership and Adventure

Scripture Union Eastern Cape, are equipping young leaders, fostering teamwork, and building a strong community cantered on faith and service. Over the past few weeks, both our Amatola and Algoa teams have been actively involved in impactful events that challenge and inspire young people to grow in leadership, teamwork, and faith.

Discovery Surfers Challenge: Running for a Cause

On Saturday, 22 February, our Amatola Team and friends took part in the Discovery Surfers Challenge, running either 5km or 10km along the beautiful East London coastline. This initiative was not just about fitness and endurance but also about fundraising for our mission. Through Back-a-Buddy and direct sponsorships, we set a goal of raising R40,000 for the year. We are thrilled to share that we have already reached R10,000, and donations are still coming in! We are truly grateful for God’s provision and the generosity of our supporters.

Empowering Young Leaders at Greenwood Primary

On 31 January, the Algoa Team facilitated a leadership camp for Greenwood Primary’s head monitors at Landela Campsite. The 15 young leaders participated in hands-on training designed to strengthen communication, trust, and teamwork. Many of them faced fears and challenges, but through the activities, they gained confidence in their leadership abilities. The camp provided a meaningful opportunity to invest in these young leaders, equipping them for their roles within their school. Teachers and students alike expressed how valuable this experience was for personal and leadership growth.

Children’s Ministry Training 101: A Growing Success

On 1 February, we partnered with Children’s Pastors in GQ to host Children’s Ministry Training 101. With an impressive 160 attendees (compared to 44 last year), this event was a great success! Our very own Tracey led a session on lesson planning, providing practical tools for those working in children’s ministry. Additionally, our bookshop sales reached R4,000, supporting continued training and ministry development. We are excited to see how this training will empower leaders to serve the children in their communities better.

IGNITE Children’s Pastors Network: Coffee, Chat, and Encouragement

On 13 February, Scripture Union Algoa hosted a coffee and chat session for the IGNITE Children’s Pastors Network. The highlight of the morning was an impactful object lesson from Peter Nuttall, based on Matthew 11:28-30:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

As we embark on a new year, this message was a powerful reminder to trust in God’s guidance and strength.
