The Scripture Union Summer Special in 2024 was truly Spirit-led and remarkable! Here’s a snapshot of this incredible journey:
Preparations and Fundraising
The year began with the Summer Special team preparing for Camp Splash. On April 1, supporters gathered at Schoenmakerskop for a fundraising hike, dressed in red to celebrate SU’s 100th anniversary. In October, the team hosted their first Music Trivia Night, a joyful event that built momentum with leader and camper applications flooding in.
Camp Time!
On December 11, 62 passionate leaders arrived at Sumcay to prepare for camp. Worship, training, and bonding set the stage for what was to come. By December 13, the gates opened to welcome 90 excited campers to Camp Splash.
Daily Themes and Activities
- Day 1: The story of Jonah taught campers that God hears their prayers, with exciting night games reinforcing the message.
- Day 2: The parting of the Red Sea reminded campers of God’s power and guidance, brought to life through interactive storytelling and games.
- Day 3: Noah’s Ark highlighted God’s promises, with spontaneous water balloon fun creating lasting memories.
- Day 4: Peter walking on water encouraged campers to keep their eyes on Jesus, culminating in a magical final evening with a talent show, fancy dinner, and bonfire.
- Day 5: The camp concluded with a reflection on all the lessons learned. An altar call led to 65 campers committing their lives to Christ, marking the camp’s most profound moment.
A Lasting Impact
This unforgettable camp was saturated with God’s presence, and its effects continue to ripple. Leaders and campers left inspired, with Grade 7s already eager to return as future leaders.
