My term kicked off with an electrifying boys’ Froggy camp and wrapped up with an equally incredible girls’ Froggy camp. Unlike the past years when we only had two camps, this year was extra special. We saw a growing need for more camps, so we pulled together and raised funds for an additional camp in March!
Our junior boys’ camp was an absolute blast with 106 boys and a dynamic leadership team of 23. Imagine a week bursting with fun activities like the famous penguin walk, epic beach games, and crafting the coolest sandcastles. Most importantly, we had the chance to share the powerful message of God’s love with them.
Amidst all the fun, I noticed that some boys struggled to express their feelings, resorting to fights when things went south. It tugged at my heartstrings, but we seized the moment to teach them healthier ways to handle their emotions. It was challenging, but seeing that positive shift in their lives made it all worthwhile!
Now, let’s talk about the girls’ camp—what a contrast! With 105 senior girls, the week was filled with self-awareness activities. However, the influence of the outside world posed challenges. We faced gossiping and name-calling, but by the end of the week, each girl discovered her worth and learned to carry herself with grace and confidence as God intended.
Friday brought a few tears as the girls realized that their newly formed community would soon part ways. Witnessing their growth was a profound blessing, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of God’s expanding Kingdom.
One heartbreaking moment was when an NGO arrived to pick up the girls. They had to navigate a neighbourhood plagued by gang violence and shootings, strategizing the safest route home. This stark reality underscored just how crucial these camps are for children from tough backgrounds.
My heartfelt prayer for both camps is for God to send the right people to nurture the seeds we’ve planted in these young hearts. Please, remember to keep them in your prayers as they navigate challenging circumstances. Together, we can make a lasting impact on their lives!
