At Scripture Union Algoa, we are thrilled to reignite our esteemed Practical Leadership Program (PLP) this year after a hiatus in 2023. This initiative is a cornerstone of our commitment to nurturing young leaders in the Eastern Cape region, empowering them with essential skills and principles that will shape their futures and contribute positively to our communities.
The PLP is designed specifically for young leaders aged between 16 to 23 years old. It comprises four immersive block workshops spread throughout the year, each packed with engaging activities, insightful discussions, and practical lessons. The culmination of this transformative journey will be the eagerly anticipated ‘Summer-Special’ camp in December, where participants will put their newfound skills into action.
This year, we welcomed a troop of 24 enthusiastic young leaders into the PLP, with many of them demonstrating exceptional leadership potential during our 2023 children’s summer camp. Witnessing their thirst for knowledge and their eagerness to grow as leaders has been truly inspiring.
The focus of our first block workshop was on self-discovery and self-leadership. Participants delved into personality assessments to better understand their strengths, weaknesses, and leadership styles. This foundational knowledge will serve as a compass guiding them on their leadership journey.
Furthermore, we are privileged to host esteemed guest speakers throughout the program—industry leaders who generously share their wisdom and practical insights from the professional world. By exposing our young leaders to real-life experiences and role models, we aim to broaden their horizons and equip them with the confidence to pursue their aspirations.
The PLP is not merely a training program; it is a transformative experience that instills vital leadership principles in our youth. We firmly believe that by investing in their development at this crucial stage, we are nurturing a generation of capable, empathetic, and visionary leaders who will positively impact our society.
