Scripture Union South Africa (SU SA) is embracing the Deaf community in its ministries, led by Phumi Jemane, a passionate Deaf Pastor. This initiative ensures that the Deaf have access to Christian resources in South African Sign Language (SASL) and life skills education.
Phumi Jemane has been instrumental in this ministry, tirelessly working in schools and providing essential life skills education. His efforts bridge the gap between the Deaf community and the Gospel, bringing hope and empowerment to many.
A significant milestone was SU SA’s first camp for Deaf primary school learners at Stoney Ridge. The camp successfully shared the good news about Jesus Christ, helped the children understand His sacrifice, and emphasized their roles as future leaders. The children were encouraged to remain steadfast in their faith and God, preparing them to be resilient and faithful leaders.
SU SA is dedicated to expanding this ministry. Plans are underway to roll out similar programs in other regions next year. We are aiming to appoint one Deaf staff member per region to work in Deaf schools. This expansion reflects our commitment to inclusivity and providing equal opportunities for spiritual growth and development.
We invite anyone who feels called to get involved or wishes to donate towards this program to reach out. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of Deaf children across South Africa. Please contact Mariska at Mariska@su.org.za for more information or to contribute. Together, we can share the love of Jesus and empower the Deaf community to become steadfast leaders of the future.
