I have been given the opportunity to minister in Merlewood Primary School, as a Sinawe Schools Worker, during the current situation.
One of the things that is different about working in school during this time is that we have to take the initiative to approach learners in order to build relationships and share the gospel.
One afternoon during break two learners approached me to ask about when we were starting the school Christian group again. I was surprised, because these learners had not attended the school group before.
I used this opportunity to share with these learners how God is always with us, even when the situation doesn’t look good.
On the last Wednesday before schools closed again, no children came to the school Christian group. So I went outside and chatted to some learners. They were talking about playing Dragon Ball-Z and how getting certain characters gave them strength. This excited me, since the session I had planned was on how God gives us strength in tough times. I took the opportunity to share and encourage them with this.
My time at the school has taught me that even though the learners were happy to be back at school, social distancing and other rules have made their return stressful.
