SU has always had a passion for training leaders and it became an easy win for us in SU Algoa to invite our summer camp leaders for follow up leadership training. 57 young leaders grabbed this opportunity and registered for what we have called our Practical Leadership Programme (PLP).
The objective: equip these fantastic leaders with life-long practical skills in leadership that can be applied at our SU summer camps along with leadership opportunities they will have in their schools and universities. At the end of the camp, we will award them with a certificate noting their theoretical and practical training to use for their CVs.
The other positive to this programme is that we now have 57 SU trained leaders to choose from to help us lead other SU events—camps, holiday clubs, School Christian Groups—so that they are well prepared and ready to go. What used to be a short leadership training event in November for camp leaders has become a strategic leadership training initiative that serves all of our SU activities. We are excited about the opportunities for new ministry that might take place due to this new leadership pipeline. Whereas we used to interview leaders for camp in November, now we get to work and walk with these leaders for a year.
God has been good to us by sending these young people our way. We honour Him by equipping them for His Kingdom and for the world around them.
