What makes faith hard: ‘staying on the right path and not giving into temptation’
At the heart of temptation is a lie. A lie that tries to convince us that the things God created us to enjoy are somehow boring or unsatisfying …
… and that things like sex or food or having nice things are where the real party is at (and God isn’t invited).
Temptation takes natural, God-given desires: for intimacy, security, happiness, friendship, love, the assurance that I’m ok and instead offers us cheap substitutes and broken short-cuts that leave us broken and thirsty – and feeling guilty as anything.
So start with the lie, like Jesus did when he was tempted so you can say with him: ‘away from me Satan!’
