Section 18A Policy

Thank you for considering making a donation to our work with young people. The following pointers will help you make your donation in such a way as to qualify for a Section 18A receipt

SECTION 18A REGISTRATION

Please be aware that Scripture Union itself is not registered in terms of Section 18A, the company that is registered in terms of the Section 18A legislation is “Sakh’Ulutsha: The Scripture Union Lifeskills Education Institute NPC”.
This is due to its focus on religious activities.

Religious activities is explicitly excluded from the legislation for tax deductible donations.

SECTION 18A REQUIREMENTS

There are two requirements that need to be met for a donor to receive a Section 18A receipt (to claim a tax deduction from your own taxable income).

  1. The donation must be utilised in terms of the type of activities listed in the legislation for Section 18A of the tax act.
  2. The amount needs to be received in the correct bank account registered in terms of Section 18A, namely:

    Account number: 270689559
    Bank: Standard Bank
    Branch: Rondebosch branch

IMPORTANT: Unless the donation meets these two requirements, we may not issue a Section 18A receipt.

The types of activities listed in the legislation for Section 18A include:

Welfare and Humanitarian

Health Care
Education and Development

Conservation, Environment and Animal Welfare

GENERAL INFORMATION

Additional requirements apply to donations received as part of a fundraising drive which may limit our ability to issue a Section 18A certificate.

If you are unclear about whether the work you are supporting qualifies, kindly contact the SU Regional Director or National Director with whom you are in contact.

The SU National Office will issue the Section 18A receipt to you only after receiving confirmation from the Region or Department concerned that your donation has been utilised in terms of the criteria set out by law.
