It gives me great pleasure to share with you stories of what God has been doing through us among the young people over the just passed school holidays. December school holidays are our busiest time of the year, yet most exciting. This past holiday did not disappoint with two amazing youth camps happening back-to-back from 6-14 December.
Our annual teen camp (Camp Awaken) happened between 6-9 December. This is a city-wide youth camp bringing together youth pastors from different churches who work together through the year to plan it in partnership with SU. Last year, a fantastic team of 15 youth pastors/leaders started planning for this camp from March. On 5th December, 30 leaders arrived to finalize preps and decor at Sumcay Campsite. These leaders were joined by over 150 teens (record numbers) on 6th December to begin a great journey of 4 amazing life-changing days of camping!
We saw God move and transform lives of the youth. Healing, deliverance and first time commitments to follow Christ were common experiences of the camp. The camp was very cross-cultural representing over 20 churches all demonstrating the unity of the body in the city of Port Elizabeth and its environs. I am particularly very pleased with the quality of youth pastors who plan this camp. Their level of commitment is unparalleled given the diverse nature of churches represented. To God be the glory! Thank you to all who sponsored needy kids to attend and those who prayed for us: your efforts bore much fruit!
