Coaton Cottage (Bains Kloof)

Coaton Cottage is a small rustic cottage in the Boland mountains and is suitable for small leadership camps.  A strict limit of 20 people is set for this cottage.

The beautiful Witte River can be accessed when camping at Coaton Cottage. A major development is planned for the future. Coaton cottage, situated in Bainskloof Village between Wellington and Ceres, was originally the first toll house, and weary travellers out spanned as they are reached the summit of the pass. Today campers are invited to use the rustic facilities for time of quiet, for meditation, for group learning, for studying God’s word, for mountain walks, for nature study and in general admire and enjoy the wonderful creative work of God.

Bainskloof Pass is a national monument and one of the engineering miracles of an earlier age.  Bainskloof Village nestles in the mountains above Witte Rive.  It is a small close-knit community and campers need to respect the tranquil atmosphere which makes the village so appealing. Coaton Cottage belongs to the Wellington Rotary Club, who has given it to Scripture Union to manage and utilize for the benefit of the community. The facilities include double and single bunks, mattresses with sheets, table and chairs suitable for 20 people.  There are two ablution blocks with hot and cold water. The kitchen contains an electric oven, a refridgerator, pots, pans, a kettle, urn, toaster, microwave, crockery and cutlery.  The two rooms can sleep 10 and 20 respectively and suitable for camp parents or cooks.
